It is pretty crazy to think that the original Road Rash is the better part of 30 years old! This was and is a real landmark title for their Sega Genesis and one of the big hits for EA (before they sold their souls) and it was a huge exclusive for the Sega Genesis which would see two sequels released before the series went multiplatform.
Hotel California
This first Road Rash game is set in California. You have five different races that you need to compete in, each one based on a different part of California. You need to finish from 1st to 3rd place in order to advance to the next race. While at first glance, Road Rash may seem like it is just another motorcycle racing game. It is actually, far, far more than that.
Cruising For A Bruising
While racing is, of course, the main aspect of Road Rash. This is illegal motorcycle street racing we are talking about! As a result, there are no rules and you are greatly encouraged to fight the other racers. You can punch and kick them when you are close enough and you can even take weapons from them such as clubs and chains and use them.
Be careful as they can hit you too! You do have a stamina meter which you have to keep an eye on. Also, you can crash and come flying off your bike, causing you to have to run back to it. You can even get hit by cars that are on the road. Road Rash is a rather challenging game as you have to really pay attention to what you are doing, but this is a really fun experience and one that is super addictive.
Bike RPG?
Ok so calling the original Road Rash an RPG is a bit of a stretch, but I do feel that it has somewhat could be described as RPG elements. You see, money plays a bit part in the game. You start off with just a grand in your pocket, but the better you do the more money you make and you will need more money!
You can purchase new and better bikes, but you also need money to pay for repairs and even fines if you get busted by the cops. If you run out of money and cannot pay for a repair after your bike is wrecked or if you cannot pay the cops, it is game over.
I love the original Road Rash and feel that it still holds up very well to this day. While I will always have a soft spot for the original Sega Genesis version of the game, it was ported to other consoles eventually such as the 3DO and the original PlayStation with better graphics, presentation, and sound so they are also worth checking out.

- The racing is a lot of fun
- The tracks are super long and intense
- Fighting other bikers is really cool
- It is kind of funny when you fly off your bike
- The way the game deals with money is kind of like an RPG
Cons:
- The frame rate is a little erratic at times
- I do feel that the sequel is just a tad better

New Pavement-Scraping Competition To Go.
Motorcycle Mayhem: Road Rash pits you against 14 other moto-maniacs in a five-course, obstacle-ridden, highly illegal circuit. Illegal means that cops are on the lookout for scofflaws like you. Get busted, and you could face a steep fine, not to mention a devastating delay. Illegal also means tilt no dirty tactic is off limits. Club- and chain-wielding opponents will attempt to knock you off course. Get to them first, and you can steal their weapons. Of course, brutalizing your opponents isn't your only goal. To become the champion road rasher, you've gotta finesse five levels of road-blocked, oil-slicked, cop-infested, traffic-ridden courses. And with conditions like dies, you're gonna need bike upgrades. Use your prize money to trade up — the shop stocks 15 all-new bikes. Assess the upcoming course, and choose carefully.
Finish among the top three racers on each course, and you advance to the next level. Then it's on to five more hair-raising races with higher stakes, rougher opponents, more cops, and stiffer fines.

- Don't even think about racing the Alaskan track until you've mastered a couple of the easier courses.
- Check your rear-view mirrors for cops and opponents.
- You can upgrade your bike even before your first race, but hold off until you're comfortable with your starter vehicle - the others are tougher to control.
- You can go off road to avoid obstacles and opponents.
- Damage to your bike is cumulative. Damage to your body is not.

What do we like about a disc-based version ot Road Rash!
The hot new video and graphics; the thumpin' tunes by bands like Soundgarden, Swervedriver, and Paw; the option to play as one of the rashers or just jump into the game; and the ability to save games to the Sega CD RAM a RAM cart.
The game play is the same trusted, tried-and-true rashing, rat ing, punching, and kicking—with; weapons, if you can grabthem from your opponents.
I lies only drawback is the somewhat bitty quality of the full-motion video.
But the hilarious — sometimes brutally cruel — winning and losing scenes add enough color to even the scale.
Just remember that while vou don't have to flail on the aimpetUjon to win, it certainly helps.

In every Road Rash game, EA tells you (and in every RR review in Visions, we tell you) not to try anything shown in this game,'cuz it ain't real, and trying it would invariably see you dead, or worse.
So don't If you ride, do it responsibly.
They haven't figured out a way to donate brains.
But if they do, you can bet they'll want some-thing a little smarter than road-rashed gray matter from a kamikaze crotch rocketeer.

Time to get nasty with a sequel to one of the coolest thrasher games ever to come onto the Genesis. Road Rash for the 3DO has gotten a lot of attention in recent months, still in the air. Electronic Arts could not have decided to bring Road Rash 3 out for the Genesis at a more opportune time. This is the nastiest and baddest Road Rash ever.
There are no rules, and the all-out motorcycle combat now takes place in seven countries, including the United Kingdom, Australia, Italy, Brazil, Kenya, Germany and Japan.
You have five new weapons that you can beg, borrow or steal to try to make your opponents kiss the pavement, including the all-new cattle prod. You can also use mace, a crow bar, an oil can and nunchukas, and the club and chain from Road Rash 2 are back.
If you don't win enough to become the big dog on the Road Rash block, you will still be able to improve the power and the ride of your bike with upgrade kits. Upgrade kits will keep you in the race when you can't afford to buy a new bike.
You can buy upgrades, like tires, suspension, performance and protection kits. The kits will increase your engine's performance and give you quicker acceleration to keep you in the running.
There's also an all-new Snitch Mode that allows you to rat on another biker and get off light with the cops. When you do this, you have to have eyes in the back of your head because thrashers are out for your blood.
Watch out for a new batch of obstacles and road hazards, including new pedestrian traps and a new group of wildlife to encounter.
When you get pulled over by the cops and try to run and hide, the cops are smarter this time around. They send a member of the K-9 unit to sniff you out and haul you in for some real seat-of-the-pants, in-your-face justice. Then you have to deal with the authorities after you One of the coolest aspects of the new game is the music and a new sound FX chip that tosses out some big-time sound effects and stereo quality sound. The musical segments really add to the enjoyment of the game.

Road Rash 3 has gone global, and you're invited to tour the world and race on seven international road tracks.
You brave the slick, wintery German roads, challenge pedestrians on the overcrowded streets of Japan and dodge wild animals on the African plains.
There are five tracks available per level. Each track has a long description that outlines the distance, and you get a glimpse of the terrain. Race the tracks in the order that they come up or you can choose the order you want to take on the circuit.
As you progress in the game, you must upgrade your equipment to remain competitive. The Perro 125 is the bike you'll start out with and it won't stand a chance against the high-horsepowered cycles you'll face in the later levels. In the Bike Shop Menu, you can shop for a new bike in one of the three classes or as mentioned earlier, you can upgrade the bike you're currently using.
Rat Bikes are low-end racing machines, and you'll be lucky to qualify for a joy ride if you continue on these sorry cycles.
Sport Bikes are quicker, and as you move into this class, you may need to adjust your riding technique, braking sooner and learning to keep your eyes peeled for oncoming cars, cows or other obstacles that can cause you to become road pizza.
The Super Bikes are the speeding bullets of Road Rash 3 and all you have to do is learn how to harness their power without crashing and burning.
One sharp turn can spell the difference between winning, wrecking and getting scooped up off the pavement with a shovel. This is a fast-action game from start to finish, and there's a number of new features that will keep gamers happy.
This game will kick gamers into high gear and into a new level of excitement.

We really don't have to tell you that doing this live and in person is about as sensible as bobbing for apples in a giant blender, do we?
C'mon Thumper. It's time to climb on to the two-wheeled rocket, get out a Louisville Slugger, and leap into Road Rash 3: World Warriors from Electronic Arts for the Genesis. With new weaponry, races around the globe, questionable new ways to get out of debt, and cops employing all-new rasher-nabbing techniques, this one- or two-player title gets in the saddle and wails. You haven't lived until you've injected the nitrous at 160-plus MPH and turned a corner to end up face to face with a startled zebra. It just makes you wonder if they make tubes of medicated ointment big enough for this Rash.
