Helpful, but.

I haven't finished the series yet, but I'm enjoying the tutorials and learning a lot. I was hoping Phil would use more plugins that are included with Pro Tools (truly in the box). I feel like with every segment, I need to buy another plugin to achieve the result.

Regarding LE vs HD, if you were using the same plugins with all the same tracks etc, there would be no difference in sound. Especially with the current Pro Tools 12 Native version. Hope that helps! It was ok but being 2 pushing 3 generations out of date was pretty lame.

Everything is PT10 HD. Some of the settings no longer exist or apply. Also doesnt really explain on something why he does it, just says I like to set this here. Not bad but im really this should be more geared to a PT12 non HD group at this point. I dont think the HD users are your primary consumers.

We’re so sorry you didn’t fully enjoy this video series and we understand your concerns. We always keep up to date on music tech, but sometimes being current isn’t always the best way to go. I’ll explain. Pro Tools as you may or may not know, is an industry standard DAW used by many high-end pro studios, and it has to interface with big dollar equipment ranging from control surfaces to video sync machines, and post software. These studios are usually so busy that they are very hesitant to upgrade, as it may break compatibility and / or add extra costs, so the old adage “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” comes into play. Pro Tools 10HD is known to be a very stable version, so many people stay there and enjoy their stable and productive system.
Regarding his explanations, this is really a more “over the shoulder” look at how a seasoned professional goes about a mix, so his expectation was the viewers watching would have basic working knowledge of things.
Lastly, yes, the majority of Pro Tools viewers are probably on Native Pro Tools, but so much of this still applies to any version of Pro Tools, and he does have some PT 12 feature videos at the end that also apply to PT Native.
